Sarah Reed Children’s Center provides a comprehensive continuum of programs and services for children throughout their development and across all environments, including the home, school, and community settings. Our service continuum provides trauma-informed, high-quality, and evidence-based therapeutic programming to children across Erie County.
What is the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
This program provides a highly structured, Sanctuary® Based, safe environment for children/adolescents (grades 1-12) and their families to obtain mental health treatment. There are two levels of care within this program: Acute and Non-Acute.
Acute PHP provides intense, short-term (about 3 weeks) assessment and treatment services for severe emotional and behavioral concerns. Therapy is completed on a weekly basis with assessment and recommendations.
Non-Acute PHP is considered a step-down service from Acute PHP and is a longer term treatment option.

- Individual, Family, and Group Therapy
- Safety/Crisis Planning
- Psychiatric Assessments
- Medication Management

- Other Agency Collaboration
- Discharge Planning
Who can refer someone for the Partial Hospitalization Program?
Parents, guardians, hospital personnel, educational entities, and/or other treatment providers.
How do I refer to the Partial Hospitalization Program?
- Complete the referral form on our website.
- Send a completed and detailed referral to intake@sarahreed.org.
- Complete referral form and drop it off in person. Our address is 2445 West 34th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
- Work with your school or other mental health agency to complete the referral and submit it by one of the options above.
What is the process after a referral is submitted?
Once a referral is received, our intake department will send the referral to the Utilization Team to be reviewed. Each referral received must meet criteria and medical necessity for the program.
Frequently Asked Questions
What population does PHP serve?
Our Partial Hospitalization Program serves children and adolescents in grades 1-12 with mental health concerns that continue to struggle at the level of care they are already receiving.
What about academics?
The PHP team works with the educational institute the child is currently enrolled in to continue providing academics during their admission. Meetings may include school district representatives.
What Happens After Discharge?
The client will return to their previous treatment services. If no services were in place prior to attending program, then the treatment team will work with the family to make appropriate referrals.
What is my role as the parent/guardian?
To be engaged with the treatment team, attend scheduled meetings, attend family sessions, and update the treatment team as needed.
Are breakfast and lunch provided?
These meals are provided at program or you can pack.
