*NEW UPDATE (9/20/11): Great News! With much support and determination, we have been able to restore the two Millcreek Township School District rotations for the 2012-2013 internship training year. Over the next week or so, we will be updating the descriptions to reflect this change.
In the meantime, if you are thinking about applying to Sarah Reed Children's Center and have any questions at all about the site, please contact Dr. Eric Schwartz at eschwartz@sarahreed.org for information.
* Please Note*: For the 2012-2013 internship year and the foreseeable future, we have been forced to make some structural changes to our internship training program. This is primarily due to on-going, severe school district budget cuts. The most significant change is the elimination of the partnership training sites with our local public school districts. Unfortunately, we can no longer offer the two day/week, year-long rotation in the local school districts. This means that all school-based supervised training will occur in the existing integrated clinical/educational settings at Sarah Reed Children's Center. Additionally, as of 2012-2013, we will no longer require students to attempt to obtain certification in school psychology in Pennsylvania.
All interns will continue to receive supervised clinical training in child psychotherapy, multidisciplinary clinical consultation, crisis intervention, and research along with supervised training in the provision of psycho-educational services (e.g.psycho-educational assessment and consultation). However, unlike past years, the supervised training in psycho-educational services will occur in the integrated clinical settings at Sarah Reed Children's Center.
Please read the entire description of the internship training program. We remain staunchly committed to providing excellent supervised training in the provision of psychological services with children, adolescents, and their families. If you should have any questions about our training program, please feel free to contact Dr. Eric Schwartz, at eschwartz@sarahreed.org for further information.
The Sarah A. Reed Children's Center offers a 2000 hour Pre-doctoral Internship program in Professional Psychology that is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. The internship funds three full-time training positions beginning in early August and lasting 12 months.
The goal of our internship is to provide a unique experience to doctoral students through a broad range of experiential and didactice training opportunities. We look to attract and match with students who are seeking an internship training experience that emphasizes broad practice with children and adolescents with histories of trauma and persistent emotional and behavioral disorders. Children are seen in clinical as well as school and alternative school settings. We require students to have training and/or experience in formal psycho-educational assessment and child therapy and counseling. Historically we have matched with students from school psychology programs, but we regularly review and will consider students from clinical or counseling programs who have demonstrated training and/or experience (practica/work) with children in school/school-based settings (Please see the section on Application Requirements). Applicants from APA approved doctoral programs are preferred.
We participate in the APPIC Matching Program and abide by the policies set forth by APPIC. For additional information or questions pertaining to the Sarah A. Reed Children's Center Predoctoral Internship Program in Professional Psychology, please contact the American Psychological Association's Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation at 750 First Street, NE Washington, D.C. 20002-4242 or telephone (202)336-5500.
Sarah A. Reed Children's Center is a private, non-profit mental health agency for children and adolescents ages 3-18 years with emotional, behavioral and psychiatric difficulties. It is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
