Sarah Reed Children's Center provides a range of internship opportunities for college students seeking job experience in a variety of social service fields. We have a strong history of working with local universities to develop challenging, educational career experiences. We are committed to help train and develop those individuals who will be providing needed supportive services to tomorrows "at risk" children and youth. As a leader and innovator in the field of children's mental health services, we are prepared to provide valuable, practical experience which relates to classroom training and satisfies graduation credit requirements.
Graduate Internship/Practicum Opportunities
The Center offers internships for graduate students from area colleges and universities. Graduate interns usually major in the following fields: social work, counseling, school psychology, special education and early childhood education. Students are accepted for a semester or full year. The length and extent of the internship will depend upon the needs and expectations of the student intern, faculty advisor, intern supervisor and Sarah Reed. Internship experiences are available in our Residential Treatment and Partial Hospitalization Programs under the supervision of experienced mental health professionals and licensed clinicians.
Undergraduate Internship Opportunities
A range of opportunities are available for undergraduate students to increase knowledge and develop practical job skills in the following areas: documentation, record keeping, treatment planning, social skills and life skills instruction, activity/lesson planning and implementation, behavior counseling, educational support and crisis intervention. Internships are available to students in a variety of fields, including psychology, social work, sociology, criminal justice, regular and special education and criminal justice. We offer internship experiences in our Residential Treatment and Partial Hospitalization Programs. Internships are available in the summer, spring and fall.
Requirements
Students applying for internships with Sarah Reed Children's Center must complete/provide the following for consideration:
Students will be required to provide signed documentation from their designated university/college approving Sarah Reed Children's Center as their internship site and an internship proposal outlining the goals and objectives the intern would like to achieve through the completion of the internship experience.
Internship applications are thoroughly screened to ensure the best candidates for available internships. After the screening process is complete, an interview will be scheduled with the intern candidate, a representative from Human Resources, and the potential site supervisor. After the candidate is selected, they will be required to complete the following forms:
